Radio Communications Test Station MT8000A is All-in-one Measurement Solution to Efficiently Verify 5G BTS RU During Manufacturing

Anritsu Corporation introduces two software packages that enhance its Radio Communications Test Station MT8000A to support non-signaling RF tests of 5G base stations (BTS). With the Base Station Test Suite for 5G New Radio (NR) millimeter wave (mmWave) MX800045A and Base Station Test Suite for NR sub-6 GHz MX800046A installed, the MT8000A is an all-in-one measurement solution that shortens test times and lowers cost-of-test during manufacturing of 5G BTS radio units (RU).

The MT8000A can conduct measurements that are compliant with 3GPP TS38.141-1 and TS38.141-2 with the software installed. Tests supported include Tx power, frequency error, EVM, TAE, ACLR, OBUE Rx tests, and Rx sensitivity.

The Base Station Test Suites for both NR sub-6 GHz (FR1) and NR mmWave (FR2) support most of the commonly used FR1 & FR2 frequencies globally.

Anritsu has released the two test suites supporting FR1 and FR2 with multiple RF ports to create a more effective solution to conduct RF tests of 5G BTS. The MT8000A, with the software, addresses the increasing market demand for BTS antennas and associated complexities associated with 5G BTS.

MT8000A Outline

The Radio Communications Test Station MT8000A is an all-in-one platform that supports RF, protocol, and other functional tests to verify 5G radios and devices. The new software supports downlink measurements for Tx tests and uplink signal generation for Rx tests in manufacturing environments. 

A flexible design allows the MT8000A to conduct highly efficient 5G BTS tests. An easy-to-use GUI allows users to set parameters and view measurement results efficiently and an all-at-once measurement result display allows users to view multiple Tx measurement items simultaneously. It supports Multi-Carrier measurement and measurement results for each component carriers concurrently. With four RF ports, parallel measurements can be performed by the MT8000A, further improving test times, and controlling cost-of-test.

Anritsu introduces the VectorStar™ ME7838AX/EX series, the first vector network analyzer (VNA) broadband systems to offer single-sweep coverage up to 125 GHz/110 GHz with guaranteed and typical specifications. The unique capabilities of the VectorStar ME7838AX/EX systems to sweep and provide characterized data through 125 GHz provide design engineers with the ability to significantly and confidently improve their device models for dramatic improvements in first time yields and performance.

With the additional 5 GHz guaranteed frequency sweep compared to previous VectorStar systems, the ME7838AX, ME7838A4X, ME7838EX and ME7838E4X meet the market need for accurate verification of components and broadband applications operating at 122 GHz.

125 GHz Calibration/Verification Kits

To support measurements to 125 GHz, Anritsu also introduces the 3656C Series calibration and verification kits that are characterized to 125 GHz. Four versions are available to meet customer requirements and needs.

Calibration kits are available with cal. coefficients (.ccf) only and with or without a verification kit. Anritsu also offers .s1p database definitions (and .ccf) calibration kits with or without verification kits.

Best-in-class Performance

The VectorStar ME7838AX/EX continue to provide the best-in-class performance of existing VectorStar ME7838 series broadband systems, including superior time domain analysis utilizing the most points available in a single channel with the widest broadband frequency and best resolution. Other performance benefits of VectorStar broadband systems are industry-best millimeter wave (mmWave) noise floor and dynamic range at 120/125 GHz, calibration and measurement stability of 0.05° over 24 hours, and broadband measurement speed of 1 second at 1601 points, 10 kHz IFBW.

Similar to other VectorStar broadband systems, the ME7838AX/EX are compatible with compact, lightweight mmWave modules for easy, precise, and economical positioning on the wafer probe station. They are the only mmWave modules compact enough to provide direct connection to on-wafer probes for maximum dynamic range and measurement stability. Included in the series is the first mmWave module with electronic power leveling to offer the widest power level control of up to 50 dB.

Anritsu provides an efficient upgrade path to existing VectorStar ME7838 broadband system customers. The ME7838AX/EX systems are available in 2- and 4-port configurations.

Supports simultaneous dual-port 400GbE measurement and 200GbE

Anritsu Corporation is pleased to announce the launch of its 400G Dual/100G Quad Channel Expansion MT1040A-020 option offering upgraded functions for its popular Network Master Pro. Installing this new MT1040A-020 option in the MT1040A supports simultaneous dual-port 400G Ethernet (400GbE) measurements using a combination of two 400G measurement modules. As a result, since data Tx and Rx tests can be performed simultaneously, it is possible to both test networks as well as measure the latency and execute quality tests of 400G equipment efficiently using just one MT1040A unit. Additionally, testing of 200GbE used in data centers is also supported.

By upgrading the MT1040A functions to support 400GbE in response to customers’ requirements, Anritsu is contributing to the deployment and smooth operation of high-speed networks.

Development Background

With the start of 5G services and the spread of Cloud computing, as well as the rapid increase in teleworking, supporting increased network speeds and larger data capacities has become an urgent issue for communications network operators. The 400GbE Network Master Pro MT1040A is a portable tester for evaluating the communications quality of various network types operating at speeds ranging from 10 Mbps to 400 Gbps. With its stackable configuration of measurement modules, the MT1040A can support simultaneous dual-port 400GbE measurements using a combination of two 400G measurement modules, facilitating quality tests (BER, throughput, frame loss/latency, etc.) of 400GbE equipment. Moreover, in addition to supporting 400GbE, the MT1040A also supports 200GbE, offering network operators a cost-effective, all-in-one quality tester.

Anritsu Corporation and Bluetest combine their recent product upgrades to create a strong and up-to-date OTA measurement solution for verifying the WLAN RF-performance in this new 6 GHz band, as well as of existing WLAN standards (802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax) in the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands. The collaboration provides customers with a complete WLAN Over-the-Air (OTA) test solution capable of transmit power (TRP) and receiver sensitivity (TIS) measurements on devices and access points. Measuring the OTA performance in life-like, but repeatable conditions, enable manufacturers of small and large WLAN equipped devices, including IoT and smart home appliances, to optimize the radio performance and end-user satisfaction.

6 GHz has for a long time been the upper frequency limit of most public communication systems. This is now changing with the WLAN standard IEEE 802.11ax expanding up to 7.125 GHz range (“Wi-Fi 6E”). The growth of WLAN connected devices and services are expected to benefit greatly from this increase in available frequency space and number of 160 MHz channels.

The Anritsu Wireless Connectivity Test Set MT8862A is dedicated to the WLAN standard, hence optimized for stable and reliable connections with wider dynamic range, even in a faded environment such as in the Bluetest reverberation chamber. It is now updated with a new radio module adding support for the 6 GHz band and 160 MHz channels, in addition to the already supported 2.4 and 5 GHz bands. The test setup is easily expanded to support 2x2 MIMO measurements using two MT8862A units.

Bluetest has meanwhile upgraded the complete range of reverberation test systems with an increased default frequency coverage. The compact and cost-effective RTS25 chamber is upgraded by adding the new 6-7.125 GHz band. This chamber is primarily targeting the buzzing WLAN and Bluetooth industry. The best seller RTS65, as well as the larger RTS85 and RTS95 now feature 4x4 MIMO support for frequencies all the way up to 12 GHz, in addition to previously released 5G FR2 packages with 2x2 MIMO support up to 43.5 GHz.

Anritsu Corporation and MediaTek are pleased to announce that the first OTDOA Protocol Conformance Test (PCT) for 5G New Radio (NR) has been verified with a device containing the MediaTek M70 5G modem and Anritsu 5G NR Mobile Device Test Platform ME7834NR.

5G NR introduces several new use cases involving positioning for applications in industrial automation, automotive and terrestrial arenas, consequently many positioning mechanisms have been added to the NR standards defined by 3GPP Release 16, with more planned for 3GPP Release 17 and later. OTDOA is one of the positioning methods which was originally introduced for 4G LTE and has been extended into 5G NR. OTDOA relies on the UE measuring the time difference of Positioning Reference Signal (PRS) received from multiple cells and uses this to compute its location with support from a location server.

The conformance tests are defined by 3GPP in TS 37.571-4 and have been submitted by Anritsu to 3GPP RAN WG5 (Radio Access Network Working Group 5). It supports 5G NR in both Standalone (SA) and Non-Standalone (NSA) mode in addition to LTE, LTE-Advanced, LTE-A Pro, and W-CDMA. Integrated Solution

This solution integrates Anritsu’s Radio Communication Test Station MT8000A and SmartStudio NR (SSNR) control software with Spirent’s Umetrix Video system for evaluating video quality.

The MT8000A operates as a 5G Call Box by simulating a 5G base station and core network using a state-machine-based GUI.  Users can simulate a full range of 5G network conditions including both Standalone (SA) and Non-Standalone (NSA) topologies at FR1 or FR2 frequencies, all without creating protocol scripts.  Testing of throughput, mobility, VoNR, EPS-Fallback, SMS, CMAS, CDRX, and other functions can be easily performed using SSNR’s GUI.

SSNR’s flexible network settings as well as its simple reproduction of a live 5G network environment facilitate easy and effective analysis of video quality. Moreover, support for many APIs accelerates configuration of customer’s automation environments.

Spirent’s Umetrix Video evaluation system measures the receive-side quality of streamed video contents by scoring QoE (Quality of Experience) using Video Mean Opinion Scoring (V-MOS) from only receive-side. It supports video-streaming services and video-content analysis by scoring the original video without prior display, facilitating faster and lower-cost repeatable design tests, regression tests, and competitor benchmarking.

Anritsu Corporation announces that Anritsu is the leader in both 5G protocol and RF carrier acceptance test (CAT) coverage for a Tier 1 U.S. operator. Anritsu has achieved leading 5G protocol coverage, with more than 200 test cases now available. The only other approved test vendor is validated for 81% of Anritsu’s total, so Anritsu offers a significant advantage to mobile device manufacturers planning to use the operator’s carrier acceptance tests.

Anritsu also leads test vendors in 5G protocol CAT across U.S. operators with 5G carrier acceptance programs. It supports both planned 5G NR Standalone (SA) and Non-Standalone (NSA) modes, and when combined with Anritsu’s 5G over-the-air (OTA) CATR Anechoic Chamber MA8172A covers all 5G frequency bands, including sub-6 GHz and mmWave. The flexible system configuration can be customized easily for the measurement conditions while also supporting LTE, LTE-Advanced (LTE-A), LTE-A Pro, and W-CDMA RF tests, as well as CAT.

An upgrade from the LTE-Advanced RF Conformance Test System ME7873LA to add 5G support offers customers a cost-effective RF test system meeting required test conditions.

5G NR Mobile Device Test Platform ME7834NR

The ME7834NR is a test platform for 3GPP-based Protocol Conformance Test (PCT) and CAT of mobile devices incorporating Multiple Radio Access Technologies (RAT). It supports 5G NR in both SA and NSA mode, in addition to LTE, LTE-Advanced (LTE-A), LTE-A Pro, and W-CDMA. When combined with Anritsu’s OTA RF Chamber MA8171A and RF converters, the ME7834NR covers the sub-6 GHz and mmWave 5G frequency bands.
