Anritsu Company is announcing enhanced functionality to the Field Master spectrum analyzer LTE and 5G measurement options. As the rollout and densification of 5G networks accelerates, degradation of network performance resulting from interference in the TDD uplink is becoming more prominent. The latest Field Master software release provides a dual display of the LTE or 5G Frame structure with automatic placement of gates on the Uplink slots alongside the RF spectrum of the gated time slots.

For 5G networks with a coastal or mountainous terrain, RF downlink transmissions readily become subject to atmospheric tropospheric ducting.  Signals can travel hundreds of kilometers, resulting in a time offset relative to the far-end base station. The result is downlink power masking the uplink signals from user equipment. It is also essential that there is a common frame slot format deployed on all operator networks in a country, and ideally at international borders. The new uplink interference measurement includes configurations for the common frame slot formats recommended by international standards organizations, including GSMA, ITU-R, and ECC/CEPT.

Anritsu’s Field Master spectrum analyzer with LTE and 5G measurement options are the preferred test instrument for regulators and operators globally. The addition of this uplink interference measurement enhances its value by providing detailed insights into the common causes of interference in new TDD networks.

5G and LTE measurements are options for the Field Master Pro MS2090A covering FR1 and FR2 frequency bands and the new Field Master MS2080A for FR1 only networks. In addition to 5G and LTE measurements, a Real Time Spectrum Analyzer captures the detailed transmitter spectrum, and a cable and antenna analyzer accessory facilitates sweeping of feeder cables.

 - New Modules for Anritsu Rubidium Signal Generators Create Solution that Provides Industry’s Broadest Frequency Coverage and Best Signal Purity, Output Power -

Anritsu Company introduces frequency extender modules for its Rubidium line of signal generators, in partnership with Virginia Diodes, Inc. (VDI). Covering 50 GHz to 1100 GHz, the modules complement Rubidium’s best-in-class performance by providing the industry’s broadest frequency coverage and best output power to create a sub-THz signal generator solution for emerging scientific, wireless communications systems, and body and material scanner applications.

The integrated solution brings significant signal purity and output power benefits to sub-THz design environments. Rubidium outperforms all other signal generators in its class in phase noise and harmonic/spurious by a substantial margin. The performance advantages are preserved at sub-THz frequencies.

When the VDI frequency extender modules are used with Rubidium signal generators, engineers realize the industry’s highest output power at THz frequencies. The VDI modules offer high test port power, voltage-controlled RF attenuation, and TTL controlled ON/OFF modulation rates to a few kHz as standard.

2023 03 09 114251Each frequency extender module has two multipliers, which can be configured to allow input signals in two frequency bands. One multiplier has low frequency input for < 20 GHz and 10 dBm input level and the other has high frequency input for < 50 GHz and 0 dBm input level.

The Rubidium-VDI signal generation solution meets the growing demand for emerging sub-THz radio spectrum designs. It can be used during development of satellite services, radio astronomy, earth exploration, and meteorology applications.

Wireless communication systems focusing on the W band (90 GHz to 120 GHz) and D band (130 GHz to 170 GHz), as well as intersatellite links operating at 220 GHz to 330 GHz, are also applications for which the solution is designed.

“VDI strives to produce the highest quality test and measurement solutions for the mmWave, sub-THz and THz frequency ranges through frequency extension of existing microwave test infrastructure. Achieving this requires continual innovation and development to integrate leading-edge active devices with our in-house Schottky diode technology to meet tomorrow’s measurement challenges,” said Cliff Rowland V.P. Business Development, VDI. “VDI is exited to work with Anritsu to combine our high-frequency SGX extension modules with its new signal generation capability to bring high-performance solutions to the market.”

Rubidium Delivers New Level of Performance

The Rubidium signal generator family delivers outstanding signal purity and frequency stability, even at high output power levels, across a broad frequency range of 9 kHz to 43.5 GHz. Coupled with built-in, easy-to-use, at-location frequency and power calibration capability, Rubidium offers exceptional overall utility and long-term value in a broad range of commercial, scientific, and military/aerospace measurement applications.

Rubidium offers an order of magnitude with better frequency stability compared to other signal generators that use an OCXO-based reference. The signal generators offer groundbreaking low single sideband (SSB) phase noise of -136 dBc/Hz (typical) and -140 dBc/Hz (measured) at 10 GHz and 10 kHz offset that is unmatched in the industry. Coupled with best-in-class harmonic and spurious performance, Rubidium signal generators enable customers to make highly accurate measurements.

Anritsu Corporation and Comprion are pleased to announce the availability of downloadable 5G and 4G eSIM test profiles for use with Anritsu’s MT8000A Radio Communications Test Station and Rapid Test Designer (RTD) application software.

An increasing number of mobile device manufacturers are integrating embedded SIMs (eSIMs) into their products, whether phones, tablets, wearables or IoT devices, both for flexibility and to save valuable physical device real-estate. However, because eSIMs are non-removable, it is now more difficult to set-up communication testing between the mobile device and a network simulator in the lab.

Previously, test labs and handset manufacturers used a physical Anritsu Test SIM to configure the mobile device so it could be tested with the Anritsu network simulator. However, since there is no longer a card slot for eSIM-only devices, the device's configuration must instead be digitally loaded onto the mobile device-under-test via an Anritsu-specific eSIM test profile.

This is now also possible for prototype and commercial eSIM devices via the Comprion eSIM Test Profile Service. Comprion and Anritsu have jointly developed the necessary test profiles to test the mobile devices using the Anritsu MT8000A network simulator for the RTD 5G and 4G protocol test software environment in the R&D lab.

2022 04 28 094318

The Comprion eSIM Test Profile Service is fully GSMA SAS compliant and available online via a subscription service. It includes a repository of eSIM test profiles as well as a GSMA-standardized Remote SIM Provisioning service to deliver the test profiles to eSIM devices.

“The combination of a repository of eSIM test profiles and a GSMA-standardized and SAS-compliant Remote SIM Provisioning service to deliver Anritsu specific test profiles to eSIM devices is unique in the industry and makes testing easier, faster, and more cost-effective, significantly reducing time-to-market." says Dr. Marcus Dormanns, Lead Innovation Manager at Comprion.

Anritsu’s Marketing Director Kevin Ingrams adds: “ANRITSU is delighted that once again it is extending its successful long-term collaboration with Comprion to deliver market leading eSIM test solutions to its customers in order to keep them at the forefront of latest technology”

The example application used in the demonstration is the advanced intersection collision warning (AICW). For this purpose, sensor-based information is exchanged between the vehicles and the infrastructure in the intersection area through the use of 5G communication technology. In the demonstration, V2X data and video data collected by camera sensors is provided and analyzed to warn of people or objects such as vulnerable road users (VRUs) located in blind spots, commonly found at intersections.. The demonstration uses 5G network slicing technology to establish a separate URLLC link to provide V2X hazard warning data and an eMBB link to share HD video.

Gregor Hordys, responsible for connectivity topics at dSPACE, explains: "This solution adds a state-of-the-art sensor-realistic and vehicle simulation to the radio communication test system to enable testing of advanced applications for connected and cooperative automated driving, based on 5G and edge computing in the lab."

At Mobile World Congress 2022, Anritsu and dSPACE will demonstrate in a joint showcase how to avoid collisions between vehicles and objects or people at intersections with limited visibility. At Mobile World Congress 2022, Anritsu and dSPACE will demonstrate in a joint showcase how to avoid collisions between vehicles and objects or people at intersections with limited visibility.

"This joint integration and the power of such a solution is a significant step forward for 5G V2X testing and emulation. This industry-leading demonstration is an exciting example of the development of 5G V2X applications," says Jonathan Borrill, Head of Global Market Technology at Anritsu.

To provide a 5G network slicing test environment for automotive V2X use cases, the showcase uses an Anritsu MT8000A radio communication test station and dSPACE VEOS (a PC-based simulation platform) with the dSPACE AURELION solution for sensor-realistic simulation.

The joint showcase will be on display at the Anritsu booth (Hall 5, D41) at the Mobile World Congress 2022, which will be held in Barcelona from February 28 to March 3. It will also be showcased at Anritsu’s Virtual MWC22—Wireless Technology Showroom which will be launched on February 28. Register here to enter the showroom: bit.ly/AnritsuMWC22.
