Siemens sold four single-stage compressors to steel industry customers located in China. These machines will be built at Siemens' Frankenthal operation in Germany. Three of these machines, model STC-SOL units, will be installed at Rizhao Steel Company Limited's new coke plant in the city of Rizhao in the eastern Chinese province of Shandong. The coke plant is being erected by Baosteel Engineering. The compressors, driven by Siemens electric motors, will be used to transport coke gas. The coke plant is scheduled to begin operations in June 2017. The fourth compressor, a model STC-SOF, was ordered by Lingbao City Jincheng Metallurgical Co. Ltd.

2016 06 07 092116This unit will be used in a new smelting plant in the city of Lingbao in the central Chinese province of Henan. The process gas machine will transport contaminated exhaust gas from the smelting process for cleansing in the sulfuric acid plant. The plant is scheduled to be commissioned in August 2017. Installation of the compressors on site is also included in both of these orders.

"We were able to win out over stiff competition for both of these orders," commented Volker Neumann, location manager for the Frankenthal operation. "Both of these orders were won on the basis of the high quality and reliability of the machines. Comparable reference projects also helped convince the customer of our value proposition."

Single-stage turbo compressors from Frankenthal are recognized for their excellent availability and high efficiency. These attributes, combined with the maintenance-friendly design of the machines, helps reduce operating costs. Numerous STC-SOF machines are in operation around the globe. In addition, several Chinese smelting plants already use the STC-SOF compressors.

Siemens recently evolved the model STC-SOL for special use in coke plants. The machine design and the impeller technology were improved to provide up to 15% greater efficiency. This reduces overall energy consumption – the most significant component of operating costs in the steel industry's coking and smelting processes.
