Kongsberg Digital has launched a new application at ADIPEC, which will enable operators in the energy sector to follow their key performance indicator (KPI) progress on drilling and well operations in real time.

Invisible lost time (ILT) – the difference between actual operational duration and a best practice target - is a known challenge when delivering wells. Without effective measurement, it is impossible to optimize best practice processes. KPIs are a proven method of increasing well delivery time efficiency and reducing costs through target-driven metrics. By using a proprietary algorithm, real time data and conditions-based logic can be integrated, analysed, and applied to track bespoke KPIs and identify further areas for efficiencies across teams, processes, and technology.

This holistic, target driven performance analysis across multiple operations, covering various rigs and wellbores, quickly removes human bias and monitors real time performance, providing a high level, easy to interpret view of project status.

As an industrial software company, Kongsberg Digital provides SaaS solutions to enable asset-to-cloud data infrastructure, automatic contextualization, capturing and aggregating quality data cost-effectively and securely.

The KPI application will be offered as part of the company’s innovative SiteCom platform, utilizing its Industrial Work Surface to provide a complete ecosystem for safer and reliable drilling and wells operations, leveraging decades of experience and complex data to enable effective and efficient decision-making.

By combining crew information and operational reporting, Kongsberg Digital KPI application benefits from an additional layer of qualification and testing.

Pedro Alcântara Nunes Neto, Senior Vice President at Kongsberg Digital, said: “Providing the industry with a joint Industrial Work Surface to optimize workflows and operations is how digitalization really proves its value. Our new KPI application proactively conceptualizes holistic solutions to provide real-time data, predictive tools, processes, and expertise to our customers’ fingertips, ensuring workers are able to translate real-time data on performance indicators into appropriate actions, across the world.

ADIPEC is an important and strategic event for Kongsberg Digital. The UAE and the wider region are vitally important to ensure global energy security, and one in which we want to extend our geographic footprint.

Kongsberg Digital, a global provider of industrial software and digital solutions, has launched SiteCom Trip Risk, the company’s latest product to provide up-to-date well insights for drillers.

During the Offshore Northern Seas (ONS) exhibition in Stavanger this week, Kongsberg Digital launched the SiteCom Trip Risk application – a new application for well operations.

2022 08 29 152339The interactive application - part of Kongsberg Digital’s SiteCom Discover Portal (SDP) platform for well operations - provides users with the latest information for navigating wellbores, improving operational efficiency, visibility, and risk management. Having a digital holistic overview of a well saves operators time and cost, while reducing overall emissions and facilitating remote team communications between on and offshore operations.

Historically, trip risk assessments have been static documents, periodically updated and exported as a report for operation teams. SiteCom Trip Risk facilitates ongoing interaction between the subsurface and operation teams, keeping the operational status relevant and up-to-date.

SiteCom Trip Risk enables a dynamic presentation of the string within the well, highlighting key operational observations and relevant data to the driller. Given that this information is retained in the database and not in an offline report, it can be used in knowledge transfer to facilitate continuous improvement of future wells.

This is the latest application available on the SiteCom SDP platform, which offers a series of solutions leveraging contextualization, operational insights and reduced admin overhead for the users. Trip Risk, used in combination with the company’s interactive Lithology Editor and Data Editor applications, streamlines the workflow required to deliver trip risk, freeing up valuable time for operations geologists and other contributors

“We are constantly striving for the highest level of integrity and efficiency for well operations via our digital solutions, and SiteCom Trip Risk is testament to that,” said Stig Wølstad-Knudsen, VP Products at Kongsberg Digital. “It will provide our customers with a data-rich, integrated view of well operations - seamlessly working together within the SiteCom work surface. We are proud to continue our contribution to safe, efficient, and collaborative operations to market.”

Through the research project KogniGrid, Kongsberg Digital has investigated how digital twins can be used to ensure optimal operation of power grids. As a result, Kongsberg Digital recently launched a digital twin for power grids, called Kognitwin Grid. BKK Nett, have now signed an agreement on a six-month R&D project to further  develop and test Kognitwin Grid.

Based on the company's proprietary digital platform Kognifai, Kongsberg Digital has developed the SaaS product, Kognitwin Grid, in close collaboration with industry and research partners. This is a digital twin of the power grid, which provides insights and forecasts to identify grid bottlenecks, simulate grid scenarios and optimize grid investments.

The focus has been to give operators the ability to foresee challenges to the grid infrastructure, automate alerts and complex processes, to ensure complete control and pave the way for the digitalized energy system of the future.

“While an increasing part of the world's energy systems and the means of transport are becoming electric, the pressure is increasing on the power grid infrastructure, which is not built to handle the new complexity. One of the solutions is to keep building out grids for maximum capacity, resulting in more costly infrastructure and thus more expensive electricity for consumers. Digital twins enable precise and data-driven real-time insight so that operators can forecast specific needs, introduce measures to balance the network and prevent black-outs without building it out”, says Hege Skryseth, President of Kongsberg Digital and EVP KONGSBERG.

2021 08 23 082842

Collaboration enables the green shift

Kognitwin Grid is a direct result of the KogniGrid project, launched in 2018, as a collaboration with BKK Nett, Tensio (NTE Nett), Statnett, Microsoft and SINTEF. BKK Nett has now signed a new six-month research project for further development and testing of Kognitwin Grid.

“The grid operators hold the key to solving the challenges on the power grid and thus contribute to the green shift. We are pleased that BKK Nett will continue the close collaboration with us through Kognitwin Grid so that we together can find solutions that enable increased electrification of the society”, says Skryseth.

Project manager R&D in BKK Nett, Eivind Flatlandsmo, says that they have learned a lot during the 3.5 years the project has been running. They are therefore looking forward to the further collaboration with Kongsberg Digital.

“One of our strategic goals is to become more data-driven in the decision-making processes for development, management and operation of the power grid. This requires large amounts of data and information from various sources, which in turn requires new tools and methods to generate the insight we need. Fundamental to everything is data quality and information security, without this we cannot rely on the results produced or the software itself", says Eivind Flatlandsmo, project manager R&D in BKK Nett.

"We have acquired valuable knowledge and experience from the close cooperation with the partners in the KogniGrid project over a period of 3.5 years. We now know more about what a digital twin is, the work required to create a twin of value, and the potential the twin enables. The project has also given us a picture of our digital maturity level, the capacity for development and implementation of new solutions. This requires the two most important resources we have and always want more of: people and time.

We are proud to continue our collaboration with Kongsberg Digital. We want to contribute to the green shift that challenges today's power grid. To solve this, we need help. We cannot solve all our challenges alone”, Flatlandsmo concludes.

Last week, Kongsberg Digital entered into a similar agreement with Tensio, which was also involved in the KogniGrid project. The agreement with Tensio includes a six-month trial of Kognitwin Grid.
