PTC has just announced that, for the fourth consecutive year, it has been named the overall leader and a “Best in Class” vendor for its Vuforia® augmented reality (AR) solution suite in PAC’s Innovation RADAR report.

  • PTC’s Vuforia augmented reality solution suite described as “most comprehensive enterprise AR solution suite available in the market…”

The prestigious report assessed AR vendors’ support for connected workers in two criteria categories: competence and market strength.

The Farnborough-based company received the highest scores for both categories, whilst also garnering positive feedback from AR client references for addressing the highest priority industrial and enterprise AR use cases, and supporting a wide range of AR hardware options, from smartphones and tablets to wearable devices, such as the Microsoft HoloLens 2 and the RealWear Navigator 500.

“Our analysis shows that PTC’s Vuforia continues to be the most comprehensive enterprise AR solution suite available in the market,” said the report’s lead analyst and author, Arnold Vogt. “

“It is well positioned to help its customers and their connected workers realise tangible value from AR for use cases like training, service and repair, and manufacturing quality inspection and validation.”

Michael Campbell, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Augmented Reality at PTC, added his thoughts: “Earning this recognition as the overall leader in PAC’s latest AR report reinforces the value that we deliver to our Vuforia customers and the strengths of our product and go-to-market strategies.”

He concluded: “We’re pleased to be at the forefront of the growing enterprise AR market as use cases expand, new hardware providers enter the space, and industrial companies realise increasing value from these solutions.”

PTC (NASDAQ: PTC) and Schaeffler have announced a new alliance that will see the global automotive and industrial supplier standardise PTC solutions to deploy an integrated, end-to-end IT landscape.

Schaeffler, which has UK bases in Birmingham, Hereford and Sheffield, will also inform the internet of things specialist in its efforts to further develop and evolve market-specific standard solutions to better meet the needs of automotive and industrial companies.

The agreement will build on the successful twenty-year relationship based on the use of CAD and PLM technology. These tools are essential for the introduction and further development of Schaeffler’s initiatives for digital twins and for visualisation of 3D models, potentially used in augmented reality projects.

“The alliance with PTC is yet another milestone in our digitisation strategy within Roadmap 2025," says Uwe Wagner, Chief Technology Officer at Schaeffler AG.

"End-to-end data models, 3D data, and digital twins are already elementary components of our research and development process. The increasing complexity requires consistent IT solutions in all development areas for more innovation, agility, and efficiency. To achieve these, it is crucial for us to work with strong partners like PTC."

Schaeffler plans to leverage PTC's experience and robust end-to-end solutions to move from a customised engineering IT environment to using standard applications across the enterprise. This will enable prompt responses to rapidly changing requirements in a dynamic, competitive environment.

The partnership will focus on the optimisation of the existing environment, as well as its expansion with projects, such as Schaeffler’s Enterprise Traceability or Model-Based Enterprise and the deeper integration of software development tools.

The goal is company-wide integration of the software and system development solutions (Application Lifecycle Management and Model-Based Systems Engineering), which will also enable improvement in the mapping of critical systems engineering requirements, including the fulfilment of varying country-specific safety regulations.

Jim Heppelmann, President and CEO of PTC, concluded: "Through our work with Schaeffler, we aim to advance and further develop market-specific digital transformation solutions. Both companies will benefit from more robust collaboration."

One of the world’s leading authorities on Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) platforms has launched a first-of-its-kind offering that will help manufacturers gain visibility of current performance, analyse production bottlenecks and validate investments.

PTC, which works with hundreds of companies and research centres in the UK, is bringing the new ThingWorx® Digital Performance Management Solution (DPM) solution to market, a self-monitoring, self-measuring tool for closed-loop problem solving.

DPM delivers one universal view of performance, communicated in an understandable business metric - hours.

This metric is easily understood across front line workers, managers, and executives, and provides a foundation for an enterprise-scale solution. It also supports investment accountability by validating outcomes for transformational investments with real-time production data and easy-to-calculate financial improvements.

“Manufacturers consider digital transformation essential, yet often see only incremental improvements as opposed to large-scale transformational improvements,” said Craig Melrose, EVP of Digital Transformation Solutions at PTC.

“The new ThingWorx DPM Solution enables companies to address the most valuable manufacturing improvements and solve common challenges to drive production efficiency and transformation at scale.”

With DPM, companies can identify the right performance issues to drive efficiency, empower frontline workers to take corrective action, gain visibility of bottlenecks, root causes, and the most critical areas to focus on for improvement.

Users can measure results with performance data to ensure actions produce the desired outcomes and achieve rapid time to value and scale, with initial results in as little as 90 days.

“All our manufacturing clients, regardless of industry, face the constant challenge of identifying and quickly eliminating production bottlenecks,” said Jerry Gootee, Global Advanced Manufacturing Sector Leader with Ernst & Young (EY).

“The market needs a scalable technology solution that can systematically and dynamically identify production constraints, prioritise root causes, recommend and manage corrective actions, and validate outcomes measured as new production hours of capacity.

“The release of our ThingWorx DPM Solution represents a significant milestone in our IIoT business,” said Jim Heppelmann, President and CEO of PTC.

“This software marks the beginning of a new phase in PTC’s IIoT growth strategy as we evolve our positioning of ThingWorx as a suite of powerful enterprise solutions that power significant enterprise efficiency and drive business value.”
