Metso Outotec wins order for iron ore pelletizing plants in China
Metso Outotec has signed a contract with Beijing Shougang International Engineering Technology Co. Ltd (BSIET) for the delivery of two compact-sized iron ore pelletizing plants for Chengde Zhaofeng Iron and Steel Group, Co. Ltd in Hebei province, China. This is the sixth pelletizing plant contract Metso Outotec has won in China since 2020 and the first order for plants of this size in the Chinese market. The order value of EUR 33 million is booked into Metals’ 2023 first-quarter orders received.
Metso Outotec’s scope of delivery includes the engineering and design of the indurating and process gas fan systems, supply of proprietary equipment, instrumentation, control systems, as well as supervisory services and technical training. Both plants feature Metso Outotec’s traveling grate pellet indurating furnace with a grate area of 342 m². The three-meter-wide plants each have a capacity of 2.6 MTPA. Pellet production at the Zhaofeng plant is estimated to start around the third quarter of 2024.

Metso Outotec receives a three-year Life Cycle Services contract covering ten HIGmills ™
Metso Outotec has signed a three-year Life Cycle Services (LCS) contract for the service of ten Metso Outotec supplied HIGmill™ fine grinding units to a mining customer in Asia Pacific. The purpose of this agreement is to maximize production and increase uptime by improving the performance of the wear parts using Metso Outotec’s proprietary technology, services, and technical expertise. Metso Outotec will provide spares and wears for the HIGmills™. Other elements of the agreement are process optimization, repair services, as well as a service exchange program for spare and wear parts management.
The contract is a performance-based service agreement, and it is one of the largest Life Cycle Services orders received by Metso Outotec. The value of the order is not disclosed, the first part of the contract has been booked in Minerals’ 2022 fourth-quarter orders received.

Metso Outotec to deliver large energy-efficient grinding mills to West African Resources gold mine
Australian-based West African Resources has awarded Metso Outotec an order for state-of-the-art comminution equipment to be delivered to their greenfield Kiaka gold project in Burkina Faso. The order value is approximately EUR 30 million and it is booked in Minerals’ fourth-quarter orders received.
Metso Outotec’s delivery includes two Planet Positive PremierTM grinding mills with a total installed power of 27 MW, as well as Metso Outotec’s proprietary metal and rubber mill linings and spare parts.
“We are pleased to again team up with Metso Outotec for this project. West African is in an exciting growth phase, as we aim to be a multi-project, producing more than 400,000 oz/y of gold in 2025,” says Matt Scully, Project Director, West African.
“The PremierTM semi-autogenous (SAG) mill to be delivered to the Kiaka project is one of the largest gear-driven grinding mills in the world with its 18 MW of installed power. The PremierTM ball mill has been designed to pair smoothly with the SAG mill. Both mills are equipped with fail-safe Metso Outotec Polymer Hydrostatic Shoe Bearing (HSB) systems, significantly increasing reliability and reducing maintenance costs. Metso Outotec to perform smelting furnace shutdown service in South America
Metso Outotec has been awarded a shutdown service contract for a flash smelting furnace at a copper processing facility in South America. Approximately 50% of the order value, which exceeds EUR 10 million, is booked in Metals’ fourth-quarter orders received and the rest in Minerals’ orders received.
Metso Outotec’s scope of delivery includes a complete reconstruction of the furnace. This consists of demolition of the furnace, mechanical reconstruction of the walls and floor, uninstalling and installing the cooling elements, piping, and installing new refractory materials.
“Planned smelting furnace shutdowns are important to avoid refractory failure as well as to ensure furnace performance in the following production period. Refractory lining wear can also result in damage to equipment components, causing energy waste, reduced performance and stoppage. Starting with a comprehensive shutdown plan, our shutdown management team ensure that the shutdown is conducted on time and on budget without any safety incidents, allowing the customer to return to full production with an asset that delivers according to plan,” says Risto Valakari, Head of Service Sales, Metals BA, at Metso Outotec.

Huayou Cobalt awards tailings filtration equipment order to Metso Outotec
Metso Outotec has been awarded a repeat order to deliver sustainable tailings filtration technology for Zhejiang Huayou Cobalt Co. Ltd.’s new laterite nickel mine project in Indonesia. The order value, which is not disclosed, has been booked in Minerals fourth-quarter 2022 orders received.
Metso Outotec’s scope of delivery consists of the engineering, manufacturing and supply of 15 Larox® FFP3512 filters, as well as installation and commissioning advisory services and spare parts. The fully automatic, fast-opening filter press (FFP) is part of Metso Outotec’s Planet Positive offering. The filter combines the benefits of membrane technology and sidebar design with high mechanical and process performance, providing safe and sustainable high-volume dewatering of tailings with low operating and life cycle costs.
“As a core supplier of Huayou Cobalt, we are honoured to be selected again to provide efficient and sustainable tailings filtration technology. The signing of this order represents not only the continuation and deepening of our long-term cooperation but also Huayou Cobalt’s trust in Metso Outotec technology and services. Metso Outotec celebrates groundbreaking ceremony for state-of-the-art service center in Australia
Metso Outotec celebrated on November 8th the groundbreaking ceremony of the company’s biggest service center globally to be built in Karratha, WA. The investment was announced in November 2021. The new center will offer comprehensive maintenance and repair services for mining and aggregates customers in the Pilbara and Gascoyne regions. Located in one of the world’s largest mining regions, the center offers increased productivity and shorter lead times as well as substantial environmental advantages due to shorter transportation journeys.
The new service center’s lot size is over 35,000 m2 and it will have a workshop of 5,000 m2 and a total of 18,000 m2 of storage space. The total investment value is approx. EUR 32 million, including the purchase of the land, assets, and construction of the service center. The center is expected to be operational during the fourth quarter of 2023.
“This is a great day for Metso Outotec and our customers. Reaching this milestone means that the construction work on the site is proceeding after a thorough planning phase. The service center is an expansion to our footprint and an important strategic investment in supporting our customers. The center will be equipped to repair and refurbish for example large mining crushers, grinding mills, screens, and car dumpers. Further, it will act as a base for field services, hold inventory for customer critical wear and spare parts, as well as providing a customer training facility.
“By investing in this state-of-the-art service center, we are demonstrating our long-term commitment to the Pilbara Region and the communities there. We can offer shorter lead times, and environmentally efficient service and delivery capabilities. The Pilbara center is expected to provide long-term stable employment to skilled personnel from the local communities, including service engineers and experts.

Metso Outotec will deliver sustainable filtration technology for dry stacking of tailings to Eldorado Gold’s Hellas Gold Skouries copper-gold concentrator project in northern Greece.
Metso Outotec’s scope of delivery consists of the engineering, manufacturing and supply of several Planet Positive Larox® FFP3512 filters as well as installation and commissioning advisory services. The fully automatic, fast-opening filter press (FFP) combines the benefits of membrane technology and sidebar design with high mechanical and process performance, providing safe and sustainable high-volume dewatering of tailings at low operating and life cycle costs.
“Skouries is a world-class project, and we are aiming for best-in-class sustainable technologies in the project design. For tailings management, the Skouries project will use dry stack tailings impoundment, which requires less space, reduces water consumption and maximizes recovery of process water for reuse. Metso Outotec filters were selected as key and proven technology for the dry tailings facility not only because of their performance, but also because of their energy-efficiency,” says Brock Gill, SVP Projects & Transformation for Eldorado Gold.
“Eldorado Gold and Hellas Gold were looking for a reliable partner to help ensure the safety and sustainability of the Skouries tailings dry stacking facility. We are pleased having been chosen to deliver this core technology for the project. Metso Outotec to deliver world’s largest capacity flash smelting furnace to a copper producer in Africa
Kamoa Copper S.A. has selected Metso Outotec to supply a high-capacity Direct Blister Furnace to the company’s copper mining complex expansion in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The value of this type of a delivery is typically between EUR 30 to 40 million. The order has been booked in Metals’ third-quarter orders received.

Metso Outotec’s scope of delivery consists of key equipment and automation for the Direct Blister Furnace designed for the production of blister copper in a single flash furnace without the need for separate converting stages. The 500 ktpa copper throughput furnace will have the largest licensed flash smelting capacity in the world. The scope also includes intelligent safety and monitoring automation systems for the furnace.

Metso Outotec has signed a 3-year Life Cycle Services contract with one of the biggest platinum producers in the world. With LCS, the customer’s critical assets will achieve enhanced availability and higher production. The performance-based agreement provides among all a Reliability Centered Maintenance application that focuses on preventive maintenance, which will improve machine life.
The value of the order is approximately EUR 16 million and it covers 12 filters across 5 customer sites. The first part of the contract has been booked in Minerals’ third-quarter orders received.
