Rejlers has won the assignment to assist Gävle Energi in the construction of a new district heating line between Gävle and Sandviken. The project is carried out in collaboration with Sandviken Energi in order to jointly reduce the impact on the environment and contribute to increased sustainability in the region. Rejlers is responsible for production planning and construction management in the assignment, which is expected to be completed in 2024.

The district heating networks in Sandviken and Gävle will be connected in a unique project that involves a significant reduction in the region's carbon dioxide emissions. The over 20 km long district heating pipeline will connect the municipalities' district heating networks so that both Gävle and Sandviken have access to district heating from residual heat and renewable energy sources. Today, Sandviken district heating is produced in the heating plant in Björksätra, where peat is used, which is a fossil fuel.

"The interconnection of the urban district heating network is a large, exciting and complex project. Rejlers contributes with the right expertise and helps us to effectively drive the project forward," says Peter Rosenkvist, Business Manager District Heating, Gävle Energy.

"We are pleased with the assignment and look forward to contributing to this innovative project, which has a strong focus on sustainability. District heating has an important role to play in the energy transition and society's efforts towards 100 percent renewable energy," says Ulrik Björk, Business Area Manager in the Energy division at Rejlers.

The decarbonisation of the new district heating pipeline projects to reduce CO2emissions by approximately 46,000 tonnes per year, equivalent to almost 64,000 round-trip flights to Thailand. The project has received investment support from Klimatklivet, the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency's investment in projects that reduce carbon dioxide emissions and other gases that affect the climate.

Construction of the district heating pipeline is scheduled for the first quarter of 2022 and the project is expected to be completed in 2024.
